DUBLIN — A person was hit and killed by a vehicle after jumping out of a moving ambulance on the Interstate 680-Interstate 580 interchange Monday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.
According to initial reports, a person was being transported in the ambulance around 7:25 a.m. when the person hopped out of the vehicle on the connector ramp from southbound I-680 to westbound I-580, the CHP said.
Soon after, the person was hit by another vehicle, the CHP said. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene, and the Alameda County Coroner’s Office was dispatched to the scene.
The ramp was closed to traffic and was expected to be closed for much of the morning, so southbound motorists were advised to take alternate routes including exiting at Alcosta Boulevard and San Ramon or driving past the interchange and exiting at Stoneridge Drive, then heading northbound to get back to the interchange.
Additional details were not immediately available.
