Guide dog for the blind reported missing in Hayward found

HAYWARD — A guide dog for the blind reported missing Wednesday has been found, officials said  Thursday.

Wilton, a  5-year-old black male Labrador Retriever,  showed up on his own at its owner’s home in Castro Valley about 8 a.m. Thursday, a representative for Guide Dogs for the Blind said.

The representative said he was “tired and hungry” but otherwise fine.

It was not known for sure where the dog had been before returning to the home, officials said.

He was last seen Wednesday morning near  Proctor Elementary School, 17520 Redwood Road, in Castro Valley, police said.
