Letter: Alameda County’s Measure A a $140-million-a-year blank check

Measure A is a blank check
for $140 million per year

I urge my fellow citizens of Alameda County to vote no on Measure A.

This measure is essentially a $140-million-per-year blank check. This will raise $4.2 billion over its lifetime by adding a half-cent sales tax on all items purchased in the county. We are already closing in on a 10 percent sales-tax rate. The question is: How high will this rate go in the coming years?

I would like to remind my fellow citizens that high property taxes and sales taxes drive up the cost of living for everyone and make living in the Bay Area even more unaffordable.
