Astonishing how many face
mental-health challenges

Re: “What you can and cannot expect from California’s new mental health line” (Eastbaytimes.com, Oct. 12):

I was astonished after reading about the number of people in the U.S. who experienced mental health-related challenges over this past year.

Recently, there has been an increase in the importance of self-care and mental-health awareness. As we begin to age, we may put unnecessary pressure on ourselves. Learning that 1 in 5 adults experiences mental health challenges kind of puts things into perspective.

Suicide hotlines and “warm lines” seem great for those who are in need. When it comes to someone’s mental health, things can happen without anyone’s knowledge. People don’t realize that there are resources available to them 24/7.

Just knowing that there is someone who can help can possibly ease depression. Information about these hotlines should also be posted on social media so that these resources are available to all ages.
