Letter: I developed a sore throat and went to the emergency room

Grateful for Medicare after
an emergency room visit

In early September, I developed a sore throat and decided to go to the emergency room at the local hospital.

I was there for an hour to an hour and a half. I saw the physician for 10-15 minutes and he took a culture from my throat. He prescribed a week’s supply of antibiotics. I received a bill for $2,308. Thank God for Medicare.

Just the other day, a new bill showed up. This physician is not employed by the hospital and he sent a bill for $639. No wonder insurance companies keep raising the rates. The medical field should be ashamed of themselves to send out a bill like this. I only had to pay about 9% of the total bill.
