SANTA CLARA — Left tackle Trent Williams and wide receivers Brandon Aiyuk and Deebo Samuel won’t be allowed to play in the 49ers’ game that is still scheduled for Thursday night against the Packers.
Some 25 hours before kickoff, that trio was added to the NFL’s COVID-19 reserve list as close contacts to wide receiver Kendrick Bourne, whose positive test was revealed earlier Wednesday, prompting the 49ers to close their facility.
Samuel already had been ruled out because of a hamstring injury for the second straight game.
Williams has started every game this season at left tackle since arriving in an offseason trade from Washington to replace the retired Joe Staley. Aiyuk, a first-round draft pick, has blossomed into arguably the 49ers’ top wide receiver in recent weeks.
The 49ers will have to call up wide receivers from the practice squad Thursday considering Trent Taylor is their only available, healthy wide receiver. Richie James Jr. is questionable with an ankle injury.
Options on the 49ers’ practice squad are Kevin White, River Cracraft and Chris Finke.
